North Kansas City Schools, as the largest school district in the Kansas City area, has become a leader in academic innovation. The district has offered the Students in Academically Gifted Education (SAGE) program since 1974. The goal of the project is to create a learning environment that is unlike any traditional school. “I want the new school to not feel like school or smell like school” T. White NKCSD superintendent. The space is designed to inspire curiosity and encourage students to learn, collaborate, and think creatively. The program includes a Maker space, a robotic lab, an art lab, a science lab, a full kitchen, and an outdoor playground.
